This local, Outer Banks restaurant is now in it's 37th anniversary season. That's probably why it's called a 'Nags Head Tradition' by locals. Currently open for breakfast daily. Weekends there's a robust fruit and breakfast bar plus some whopping good breakfast platters. Dinner is open thru Thanksgiving weekend. Specialties are real southern cooking - like fried chicken. Also a specialty - local, Outer Banks seafood - broiled, fried, and always good. Steaks and prime rib round out the dinner menu. The "R" Bar is great for a late night meal or a special drink. And if all this isn't enough, there's Roxie's Retail - great, flirty finds for your home or wardrobe. It's a family run organization that is glad to welcome locals and vacationers alike.

This was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time and did a great job of preparing me for a full day of fishing. Great food, great staff great atmosphere.

Great french toast platter. Food is amazing. Service is top notch. Shannon has taken care of us both times and is amazing. Breakfast buffet is good alot of choices hot fresh.

Yummy creamed chipped beef! Friendly service and cozy inside. Update: went back that evening for dinner lol. Best meal I had that week! I'm picky, and for some reason went outside my comfort zone and got fish tacos. Oh my goodness! Fresh cobia. It was beyond excellent. My taste buds were in love! The beans and rice were delicious. The hush puppies. .. yes people.... they are outstanding! I took a picture after starting my meal haha. I WILL BE BACK! YOU NEED TO GO! Service was very friendly and quick.

Ask at the Grits Grill, the same people own both

They do have a breakfast buffet, other than that it's menu. Either way you won't go wrong.

Dear Mitzi, It's not our intent to have rude people working at The Dunes. I truly believe that everyone's nerves are frayed. There are so many restrictions. So many issues that have cropped up. I have forwarded your comment to the owner of The Dunes to get his input, which may not be till tomorrow am. Might you provide me with more information on what happened? Kathy
